Suryo Agung WibowoIndonesia’s number one sprinter Suryo Agung had to shelve his dream of becoming an Indonesian Soccer League player after failing a selection trial at Palembang club Sriwijaya FC.
“We sent him home this afternoon,” Sriwijaya FC assistant coach Jamaludin said Tuesday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Suryo trained with the club for four days before it made the decision.
Sriwijaya coach Kas Hartadi praised Suryo for his determination, but advised him to stick to his specialty.
“He’s talented, but he is more suited as a sprinter. We have enough players in our squad,” he said.
Suryo twice won gold at the Southeast Asian Games in the men’s 100 meter sprint. He is currently Southeast Asia’s fastest man and the sixth-fastest in Asia.
