State electricity firm PT PLN promises to ensure power supply at the SEA Games main venues at Jakabaring main stadium and Campus sports hall in Palembang ahead of the biennial sporting event in November.
General manager of PT PLN for Palembang area, Nandi Ranadireksa, said that the electricity system at the Jakabaring stadium would also have backup power with transmission system of between 70 and 150 kilovolt (kV) from three power stations, namely Keramasan, Bungaran and Sungai Kedudukan. Power in the Campus area will be supplied from Talangkepala and Talangratu power stations.
"The power supply will automatically switch to backup power in case trouble happens on the power system," said Nandi on Wednesday as quoted by Antara news agency.
Aside from the power stations, PLN will also place four extra mobile power generators at the Jakabaring stadium, with a capacity of 500 kilowatts (kW) each as another power backup.
"Currently, we've put the power generators at the vicinity of the Jakabaring complex," Nandi said.
According to Nandi, all venues will need a supply of 16.58 megawatt (MW) of electricity.
"We coordinate with the contractors developing the venues in the electricity installations. PLN will connect the power stations to the venues," Nandi concluded.
