SutarmanSutarmanNational Police chief detective Comr. Gen. Sutarman says he will hand down firm punishments for those found guilty of having sparked recent unrest in Ambon that have claimed eight lives and seriously injured numerous others.

“We must send out a strong message for the provocateurs not to play around with national security or else they will bear the consequences,” Sutarman said Thursday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

Firm punishments would also be viewed as an attempt to regain public trust in punishing whoever violated the law, he said.

Sutarman added that police were currently pursuing the actors behind provocative text messages that were sent out after the death of a local motorcycle taxi driver named Darfing Saiman.
