Monas Festival to open Friday evening

The Central Jakarta administration is set to open the three-day National Monument (Monas) Festival on Friday evening that will feature traditional arts performances from a number of regions.

The festival is the third of its kind, held in commemoration of Monas' 50th anniversary.

Central Jakarta Culture Agency official Rusli Agus said on Friday that among the regions sending performers for the festival were Jakarta, Pontianak, Surabaya and the West Java towns of Bandung, Bekasi and Garut.

He added some performers from South Korea would also take part in the event.

“Hopefully [the festival] can entertain Jakartans who frequently visit Monas, especially on Saturday evening,” Rusli said, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
