JAKARTA: PT Liga Prima Indonesia, the official soccer competition management company for Indonesian soccer league Liga Prima, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Broadway Media Sdn. Bhd. to broadcast the tournament in Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam.

Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI) chair Djohar Arifin Husin expressed his gratitude and full support for the newly established cooperation.

“The cooperation will become an added value in terms of relationships among clubs and professional leagues as well as people in both countries,” Djohar said during the signing ceremony at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday.

Broadway Media will start broadcasting the league’s matches on two Indonesian language channels, Pelangi and Bintang, in October.

Liga Prima CEO Widjajanto said that Broadway Media via Astro has at least 5 million viewers.

“As matter of fact, [Broadway Media] will not only air the matches but also preview, highlight and profile star player footage,” he said.

Widjajanto said he hoped the cooperation would boost the league’s popularity, which would be featured in a brand new format.

By involving the PSSI and the Football Association of Malaysia, Widjajanto saw a possible chance that the Indonesian league’s champion could have a friendly match against Malaysia’s.

“Hopefully we can extend the cooperation with the Philippines and Thailand so we can have our own tournament in the future,” he added.

Broadway Media chair Datuk Syed Ahmad Khalid hoped the cooperation would tighten the relationship between the two countries, “and of course, bring a significant achievement in soccer within Southeast Asia.”
