SBY signs 2 decrees to speed up SEA Games preparations

A presidential palace official said that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has signed two presidential decrees allowing the SEA Games committee to manage its own funding and goods procurement.

“The committee can use the two decrees immediately,” presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said Thursday night as quoted by kompas.com.

Julian added that the President had mulled over signing the decrees for three consecutive days before finally he agreed.

Earlier, officials warned that the organization of this year's SEA Games, to be held in Palembang, South Sumatra, could be delayed due to slow preparations. The delays, they said, were unavoidable because of a late disbursement of government funding.
