The Bangka Belitung Islands Culture and Tourism Cultural Agency has urged airlines to increase the number of flights to the islands, in efforts to keep up with an increasing flow of tourists.
Agency chief Yan Megawandi said the level of interest in Bangka Belitung was increasing rapidly.
"Unfortunately, there is still a shortage of flights. Many visitors cannot come here because there are no flights," he said Thursday.
Every day, 16 flights serve the Jakarta-Pangkal Pinang route and four for the Jakarta-Belitung route. The flights are full between Wednesday and Saturday.
"We have sent letters to the airlines to increase the frequency of flights. However, there has been no response. The most pressing need for additional flights is the Jakarta-Belitung route," Yan added as reported by kompas.com.
