A Germany and Indonesia (Jerin) series of events will be launched in October in more than 12 cities across the archipelago.

The Jerin consisting of a variety of 60 events such as conferences, roundtables on economic topics, cultural events, science exhibitions, Indonesian-German development cooperation discussions and political dialogues will be conducted from October 2011 to February 2012.

“Germany and Indonesia share important common values. Our partnership is already substantive and it is promising. I believe we are ideal partners,” Germany’s Ambassador Dr. Nobert Baas said in a release sent to The Jakarta Post on Thursday.

He added German investment in Indonesia was clearly on the rise and it welcomed Indonesian investment in Germany.

“Bilateral trade will be beneficial and act as a natural stimulus. Let me add that the European-Indonesian partnership is now setting an agenda in trade policies and other global issues including climate change” he said.

There were many reasons why Germany and Indonesia should look more to the future and identify areas of closer bilateral cooperation.

“Our companies are ready for that and our cultural scene in Germany is eager to explore Indonesia’s inspiring cultural landscape,” Baas said.

Highlights of the events will be the opening gala concerts in Surabaya and Jakarta on Oct. 2 and Oct. 3 respectively, the largest exhibition on the Indonesian painter Raden Saleh as well as a series of Indonesian-German business events and traveling events throughout Indonesia such as exhibitions on development cooperation, a science film festival and an exhibition on German science and technology policy.
