Ministry to evaluate elevated BRT

The Transportation Ministry will evaluate the Jakarta administration’s suggestion to use the abandoned monorail columns for an elevated bus rapid transit (BRT) road.

“We will evaluate whether it will be more useful for a BRT or not. The main point is how to sort out traffic jams in Jakarta,” Transportation Minister Freddy Numbesi said on Thursday as quoted by tribunnews.com.

The failed monorail project left concrete columns along Jl. Asia Afrika and Jl. H.R. Rasuna Said abandoned for years as potential investors retreated.

Jakarta Transportation Agency Chief Udar Pristono has said the elevated BRT will have two lanes running between Jl. Jend. Sudirman and Jl. Gatot Subroto via Semanggi, Senayan, Palmerah, Pejompongan and Kuningan.

The network will have 16 stations, with 12 connected to the TransJakarta routes and served by a total of 50 articulated buses.
