The Customs and Excise Directorate General plans to increase its numbers of female employees, who it says are needed in arresting female drug couriers.
The directorate general currently employs 1,300 women out of a total of 10,558 staff.
"The situation is such, not because we do not strive for gender equality," Customs and Excise director Agung Kuswandono said Thursday.
He added that the House had approved an increase in the directorate's human resource budget from Rp 471,285 billion in 2011 to Rp 529,826 billion in 2012.
