Press Council to mediate between school, journalists

The Press Council says it plans to facilitate a mediation between journalists and students of SMA 6 High School on Friday, following a fracas between the two parties earlier this week.

“The invitation was delivered a few days ago, and SMA 6 has confirmed its attendance. The school committee will also be present,” Wawan Agus Prasetyo from the Press Council’s complaints division said Friday as quoted by kompas.com.

Wawan added that the mediation would seek a resolution to the tape seizure incident, in which an SMA 6 student is alleged to have stolen a tape containing footage of student brawls, which was shot by Trans7 cameraman Angga Oktaviardi, as well as an assault by several students on protesting journalists.

Meanwhile, journalist groups Jakarta Journalist Axis, Indonesian Photojournalists and Indonesia Journalist Cameramen say they will also send representatives to attend the mediation.
