Delinquent plantations may lose licenses

East Kotawaringing Regent Supian Hadi says he will strip the licenses from palm oil plantations in the Central Kalimantan regency unless they give workers adequate transportation.

"I will order all Manpower Agency chiefs...to monitor and inspect all palm oil plantations in East Kotawaringi on the availability of transportation. If there is none, harsh sanctions will be handed out," he said, as reported by tribunnews.com on Sunday.

"This [order] must be obeyed by companies if they do not want their licenses revoked," Supian added.

The regent's decision follows an accident in the regency on Friday afternoon when 14 people died after a dump truck carrying more than 30 palm oil plantation laborers overturned.
