2 dead in Banjarmasin ferry collision
Two people have been confirmed dead in a fire that resulted from a collision between the KM Marina Nusantara ferry and a coal barge on the Barito River in Banjarmasin on Monday morning.
The dead victims were a man named Karim and an unidentified woman. Their remains have been taken to Dr. Suharsono Hospital in Banjarmasin, along with other injured victims.
The collision took place at around 7 a.m. as the ferry was about to reach Trisakti Port in Banjarmasin.
It is not yet known what had caused the collision, and police are currently investigating the case.
Search and rescue efforts, meanwhile, are still underway. The KM Marina Nusantara was carrying hundreds of passengers when it collided with the barge, tribunnews.com reported.
