The National Police on Tuesday announced that an alleged suicide bomber involved in an attack on a church in Surakarta, Central Java, was wanted terrorist suspect Pino Damayanto aka "Achmad Yosepa Hayat".
Pino had been on the police wanted list for his alleged role in the suicide bombing at a police compound in Cirebon, West Java, earlier this year.
Police confirmed the identity of the deceased suspect after DNA tests following the Surakarta church bombing on Sunday, where Pino died.
“We took DNA samples from the [Pino's] family, his wife and child. The results of the DNA tests were positive,” National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Anton Bachrul Alam said in a press conference in Jakarta.
Earlier, the media had often referred to Pino Damayanto as "Ahmad Yosepa" and "Hayat" in stories covering his alleged involvement in the Surakarta and Cirebon bombings.
Pino was born in Losari, Cirebon, on Oct. 19, 1980, and lived with his family on Jl. Pandesan, Cirebon.
Pino’s parents earlier told tempointeraktif.com that the bomber was indeed their son, recognizing his face published in the media after the Surakarta church incident.
