Former police chief Kunarto passes away

Former national police chief Gen (ret) Kunarto passed away on Wednesday morning at Surabaya International Hospital in East Java after suffering an illness, an official says.

"[He] died at 4.30 a.m. He died of sickness and old,” East Java Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Rachmad Mulyana said as quoted by kompas.com.

Rachmad added that the funeral would be held in Jakarta, but he did not know where Kunarto's remains would be laid.

"It depends on the family, whether they will bury the body at a public cemetery,” Rachmad said.

Kunarto, who served as National Police chief from 1991 to 1993, is survived by his wife, Warsiyah, and two children, Rino Adi Kuswaryono and Hariadi Kuswaryono.
