KM Kirana to compensate
victims of ferry tragedy

Bambang Harjo Sukartono, the chief director of KM Kirana operator PT Dharma Lautan Utama, said the company would provide compensation to families of victims of the fire that engulfed the ferry while it was docked at Tanjung Perak port in Surabaya, East Java, on Wednesday.

"All victims will be compensated by PT Jasa Raharja, because we have contacted them," Bambang said at the scene of the incident.

He added that the company would also reimburse the Rp 350,000 passengers had spent on tickets and would cover their transportation fee from Surabaya back to their homes.

Eight people died in a stamped of panicked passengers attempting to escape the burning vessel via three doors.

Meanwhile, many passengers have begun to line up at the ticket booth belonging to PT Dharma Lautan Utama to seek a refund for their tickets, as reported by tempointeraktif.com.
