Antasari anxious as key witnesses yet to confirm attendance at review
Murder convict and former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chief Antasari Azhar is anxious that his witnesses from two hospitals in Jakarta will turn up for a review hearing of his case at South Jakarta District Court on Thursday.
Paramedics from Mayapada Hospital and Gatot Subroto Hospital were scheduled to deliver their testimonies at the court on Thursday, but as of Thursday morning, Antasari’s lawyer Maqdir Ismail had yet to receive confirmation regarding their attendance.
“We’ve tried to ask them to come by sending a request letter and visiting the hospitals, but neither Mayapada Hospital nor Gatot Subroto Hospital has confirmed their attendance,” Maqdir said Thursday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Maqdir added that his client needed the paramedics’ testimonies because they had handled the corpse of Nasrudin Zulkarnaen, the managing director of state pharmaceutical firm PT Putra Rajawali Banjaran, who Antasari was convicted of murdering.
The paramedics are expected to explain the condition of the corpse, which Antasari hopes can prove his innocence.
At last week’s hearing, Antasari presented a forensics expert from Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in Jakarta as his witness, also to explain the condition of Nasrudin’s corpse; aside from other witnesses he presented earlier, including Nasrudin’s brother, Andi Syamsudin.
Antasari asked the panel of judges last week to help summon the Mayapada and Gatot Subroto paramedics, but judges declined, saying it was his duty not theirs.
