Haze blankets Jambi, disrupts flights

A- A A+

Thick haze from forest fires covered Jambi on Thursday morning, disrupting scheduled flight departures and arrivals in the area.

At 8 a.m., the smog had reduced visibility at Sultan Thaha Airport to 300 meters, down from 1,000 meters at 7 a.m., Jambi Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency chief Kurnianingsih said Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.

Kurnianingsih attributed the haze to smoke from forest fires in Jambi and South Sumatra.

“Flight activities were canceled because of the poor visibility," she said, adding that flights would resume once visibility returns to more than 1,800 meters.
