Transjakarta busway to use pre-paid cards next year

Jakarta Transportation Agency head Udar Pristono said that the electronic and paper tickets currently used for the Transjakarta busway service, would be replaced by a pre-paid card system next year.

“There will be a pre-paid card system. All you have to do is swipe it [on a sensor] and the amount of money in the card will be reduced,” he said on Thursday, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

He said that the new system would be far more durable than the current one.

“The system in which you slot cards [into machines] still uses a mechanical system inside the machine so that it is prone to damage,” he said.

He added that the cards would be available in stores and could be topped-up through ATMs.

He predicted that the new pre-paid system would be ready for use on all Transjakarta corridors by the middle of next year.
