Govt targets 1.5m new taxpayers with census

The government is targeting 1.5 million new tax payers by the end of the year following the national tax census it launched on Friday.
“We hope that by the end of 2011 we’ll have 1.5 million additional tax payers. This is what we’re aiming for with the tax census involving 300 tax service offices across Indonesia,” Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo said after the launch in Jakarta.
He added that he hoped the census would educate people about their tax obligations.
“The number of individuals paying taxes falls short of our total [potential]. We have to boost the number,” Agus said, as quoted by Antara.
