JAKARTA: The Indonesian Association of Disabled Women has accused the Transjakarta Busway operator of violating the basic rights of disabled people.

Chairperson of the association Ariani Soekanwo said that Transjakarta had failed to build access for people with disabilities.

“According to the government regulation on people with disabilities, we ought to have access. But the operator has failed to comply with the regulation,” Ariani said as quoted by kompas.com.

She said that Transjakarta’s operator could be penalized once the government ratified the international convention on human rights, which guaranteed the rights of disabled persons.

Ariani also said that pregnant women, people with injuries and stroke victims also had problems accessing the mass rapid transit system.
