Country flag carrier Garuda Indonesia announced that it had recruited 622 of 687 seasonal cabin crew members from the regions to facilitate service for the hajj pilgrimages in an effort to create a more familiar atmosphere during the flights, a company spokesman said.
“We try to bridge communication gaps between our staff and hajj pilgrims because we have found that many of those embarking on the hajj only speak regional dialects,” Garuda spokesman Pujobroto said Sunday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Home to the world’s largest Muslim population, Indonesia sends approximately 200,000 hajj pilgrimages to Saudi Arabia annually.
