Following the crash of one of its Casa 212-200 planes, Nusantara Buana Air (NBA) rebuffed suggestions that the aircraft might have been unfit for operation.
“There’s nothing wrong with it. The plane was fit for flying,” NBA safety manager Robur A.D. Rizalianto said on Sunday as quoted by kompas.com.
He said that in its three years of operation, the plane had never previously experienced any accidents.
“Based on its history record in our maintenance, this is a good aircraft,” he said.
Robur said that there were no reports from the pilot to the airport of departure or the airport of destination regarding any damage during the flight.
He explained that the airports realized something was wrong only after waiting for the plane more than one hour from its scheduled arrival time of 08:03 a.m.
“We tried contacting the plane, but there was no answer,” he said.
The Casa 212-200 plane, built in 1989, crashed in the Gunung Leuser National Park in Langkat, North Sumatra, on Thursday.
None of the plane’s 14 passengers and four crew members were believed to have survived the disaster.
