Schools to teach Korean to meet employment demand

With so many South Korean companies in Purbalingga, Central Java, some schools have begun including Korean language instruction in their curricula so that students can find work with these firms.

Head of Purbalingga agency for the economy, Mukodam, lauded the measures carried out by the schools’ management to adopt foreign languages other than English in their curricula.

Mukodam said that in addition to Korean, some schools had started teaching Japanese.

“Many investors, especially from Korea and Japan, have built plants here," Mukodam said on Sunday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Twenty one companies from Korea and Japan are running businesses in the regency.

According to him, some companies have expressed interest in building new plants in the region.

Headmaster of vocational high school SMKN 1 Purbalingga, Sukamto, said that his school had been teaching Japanese since 2006 and in the last two weeks they had added the Korean class.

“All secretarial students are obliged to attend Korean language classes,” Sukamto said.
