House of Representatives Law Commission deputy speaker Fahri Hamzah is confident that he will not be fired for his statements that appeared to undermine the functions of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
“I can criticize anyone. That is why I can not be dismissed just because of my statement. My mandate is from the people,” he said on Tuesday, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
In a coordination meeting with the KPK, police and the attorney general’s office on Monday, Fahri suggested that the KPK be dismissed.
He dubbed KPK “a superbody” with superior authority that has no place in a democratic country.
According to Fahri, his statement was meant to criticize the KPK for not succeeding in eliminating corruption despite delving into numerous institutions during their nine year stint.
