Information and Communication Minister Tifatul Sembiring says he will report any content providers or operators found to be siphoning customers' cellular phone credit.
"If there are any indications of a crime, I will take the matter to the police," he said Tuesday.
Numerous complaints have emerged from cell phone users concerning short text messages offering prizes and ring back tones that siphon cell phone credit.
Tifatul added that the Indonesian Telecommunications Regulatory Body was working to investigate the phone credit theft cases.
"We are investigating content providers and operators," he said, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Tifatul also promised to take action if any content providers or operators were found to have been involved in cellular credit theft.
"I recently realized that I have often been sent [such messages]," he said.
He further added that he would hold a meeting with cellular phone operators on Wednesday but declined to provide details on the topics of discussion.
