Your comment on the Jakarta administration’s decision to delay indefinitely a traffic reduction policy based on license plate numbers designed to ease traffic congestion during the Southeast Asian Games in November.
I didn’t even know this policy existed.

It’s always a delayed — then forgotten — “green” policy in Jakarta. But then our city officials feed on gasoline and malls.
Dean Benitez Sr.
Of course, it’s a weird policy. They should set up congestion zones and charges (eg. London), with street cameras and all.
Michael Hutagalung
It won’t work. The city government should learn from overseas countries through comparative studies.

There are always advantages and disadvantages of any policy.
I think the Jakarta administration knows best after all it is their responsibility.

Traffic reduction policy based on license plate numbers will not be successful because people are still allowed to own more than one car with even and odd number license plates.
Bus Rapid Transport, MRT and the completion of several toll roads could solve traffic problems. Traffic to and from the international airport and harbor should be given priority.
The discontinuation of the Jakarta Monorail is a total embarrassment. Why can’t we learn from Singapore and Malaysia?

Has the Jakarta administration conducted a public opinion survey on the traffic reduction policy?
The public is already waiting for alternatives to relieve them of their traffic woes.
