Two miners died Tuesday after they were buried in a landslide at a limestone mine in Gedongombo village near Tuban, East Java.
The victims were Warsito, 44, and Lilik Sumaryono, 33, residents of neighboring village of Kowang.
The landslide took place at about 3 p.m. on Tuesday, but the remains of the two miners could only be retrieved after seven hours of evacuation efforts, Semanding Police chief Adj. Comr. Mardiyah said Wednesday.
Three other miners were injured in the incident, including Gendut, 40, whose legs and back were broken in the incident.
Witnesses said the landslide occurred when miners were digging for limestone from a 15-meter-high hill in Gedongombo.
The Tuban administration has banned mining activities in several areas in the regency, but many people have ignored the ban and continued excavation activities.
