(The Jakarta Post/Theresia Sufa) Jakarta City Parks and Cemeteries Agency has announced plans to invest up to Rp 10 billion (US$1.1 million) for the renovation of sidewalks on Jl. Gajah Mada and Jl. Hayam Wuruk in Central Jakarta in 2012.

The sidewalks will be elevated, long and uninterrupted, and will be fenced off so that vehicles cannot park on them.

“We wanted to make 5-meter-wide sidewalks like those on Jl. Sudirman, but there is not enough space,” agency chief Catharina Suryowati said Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.

She added that the agency was still preparing detailed engineering designs for the planned renovations.
