A low-ranking police officer in Ende, East Nusa Tenggara, allegedly
deserted the police force to help his parents' fishing business.
According to the police records, First Brig. Haryanto deserted the
force on June 23 and Ende Police has placed him on its wanted list.
"It
is unfortunate that many people strive hard to become police officers,
but Haryanto said it was not a problem for him to drop out of the police
force to become a fisherman," an Ende police officer who requested
anonymity said Wednesday.
Ende Police chief Adj.Sr.Comr. Darmawan Sunarko said Haryanto had broken the rules by abandoning his duties.
"We
are waiting for suggestions from the East Nusa Tenggara Police in
conducting a police ethics trial to dismiss [Haryanto]," he added as
