Warren Buffet, invest here please: BKPM chief

Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) chief Gita Wirjawan expressed his hope that US billionaire Warren Buffet would want to invest in Indonesia, saying even US$1 is enough.

Gita said he would attempt to meet Buffet next year to try to persuade him to start investing.

“I've been offered the chance [to meet Buffet] by an investor friend who knows Warren Buffet personally. I hope to meet him next year,” Gita said Thursday, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

“One US dollar, that's all I ask. If that succeeds, we can attract billions of US dollars from other investors,” he added, after addressing a seminar at the 2011 Investor Summit in Jakarta.

Gita said he was preparing “ammunition” before the meeting with Buffet, adding he would not sugarcoat his offer by saying only nice things about Indonesia.

He said he was planning to reveal the country's real condition to the billionaire: how it is still plagued with corruption, faces tsunami threats and has problems with infrastructure, among other things.

Gita, however, said he would promise Buffet that Indonesia would change within the next five years, with lower corruption rates.

He also said he would urge for the completion of deliberations on the land procurement bill at the House of Representatives, saying the bill would make it easier to invest in Indonesia.
