Jakarta administration told to find win-win solution

An expert suggested to the Jakarta Parks and Cemeteries Agency that it cooperated with the Jakarta Transportation Agency to find a solution for street vendors and parking attendants who have been affected by the implementation of a new parking regulation in the Jl. Gajah Mada area.

“Every party that is involved in this particular matter should be fairly compensated in order to avoid future problems,” a transportation expert from the Institute of Transportation Studies (Instran), Darmaningtyas, said on Friday as quoted by Kompas.com.

The Jakarta administration has decided to apply a new parking regulation to Jl. Gajah Mada and Jl. Hayam Wuruk, both located in Central Jakarta, as part of an attempt to reduce traffic congestion.

The new regulation obliges the government to build parking facilities and does not allow on-street parking, which has long been considered a source of traffic congestion
