Golkar Party politician Bambang Soesatyo said it was possible that more central bank officials had received money from Bank Century bailout funds following Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor Budi Mulya’s statement that he had borrowed Rp 1 billion from former owner Robert Tantular.
“It is possible that we might find other names mentioned in the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) forensic audit and therefore we are now waiting for the audit report to be completed,” Bambang said Saturday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesman Johan Budi SP had earlier said that the KPK would not be satisfied with Budi Mulya’s testimony and would also pursue other leads.
The Bank Century bailout case came to the forefront of public attention last year after a series of examinations conducted by the House special committee were aired on local television stations nearly every night.
The bailout case centered on the lawmakers’ dissatisfaction over why the government chose to save the bank by disbursing Rp 6.7 trillion (around US$ 6 billion) rather than closing the bank and forcing owner Robert Tantular to repay the bank’s debt.
