Hard-line group claims bomb suspects as former members
Jamaah Anshorut Tauhid (JAT) is confirming that recently arrested terrorist suspects Beni Asri and Heru Komarudin were once members of the hard-line group founded by convicted terrorist Abu Bakar Ba’asyir.
“They finally left in March 2011 because they were no longer in line [with JAT’s vision]. They even called Abu Bakar Ba’asyir an infidel for employing the TPM [Muslims Lawyer Team] for legal representation,” JAT spokesman Sonhadi said on Sunday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Several former JAT members were also on the National Police's most-wanted list, Sonhadi said, although he did not know if they had joined another group or formed an independent group after leaving the JAT.
The National Police's counterterrorism unit Detachment 88 arrested Beni Solok, West Sumatra, on Sept. 30., and arrested Heru in Jakarta on Saturday.
The police believe Heru and Beni were part of the network that conducted a suicide bombing of a mosque in the Cirebon Police compound in April.
