Syahrini: Mix and match

A- A A+

Singer Syahrini, 28, rose to fame following her duets with musician Anang Hermansyah in songs like “Jangan Memilih” (Don’t Choose) and “Cinta Terakhir” (Last Love).

Recently she got her first musical award from Inbox, a music program on a private television station. Known for her phrases “Alhamdulillah yah” (Thank God) and “sesuatu banget” (really something), she has changed her style of fashion from a kaftan style into an office fashion style.

“I was nominated in three categories for the Inbox Awards: the Most Inbox Song, the Most Inbox Singer and the Most Inbox Performance. As for my stage performance … Alhamdulilah … I like bling accessories – which brought a nomination in the performance category.

“I like purple accessories a lot. When I performed in Malaysia, I bought many purple accessories there. I was so happy to find accessories that fit me.

“My fashion style is based on my mood. Nowadays I like an office fashion style. I have left my kaftan style, which I previously used during the holy month of Ramadhan. In Jakarta, this office style is inspired by fashionable young female executives and professional secretaries often seen on the city’s main streets.

“I regret the comments of those who say that mini skirts have led to crimes. It all depends on the intention of the person in question. People with an evil intention such as rape, will still carry out that intention no matter how the victim is dressed.

“Many office workers wear mini skirts too. I like their style, but I also like wearing long dresses and pants that are comfortable, chic and simple because they allow me to move freely.

“My new office style includes some small accessories, so that means that it costs too. I consider any spending as an investment because it supports my job as a singer.

“I like to mix and match outfits. For example, I will make a combination of white-gold or white-green costumes. If the tone of my costume and accessories is green, I will wear orange high heels.

“The budget for these things depends on my earnings. When I earn a big income, I will buy dresses or accessories that are a little bit more special. But I never splurge when business is slow.

“When I have spare time, I take vocal practice or go horse riding in Ciganjur, South Jakarta. If I have two days off I like to go shooting, which is another hobby of mine.

“I have been interested in shooting since 2009 and I first practiced it in Kopassus (Indonesian Army Special Forces). Nowadays, I prefer to go to Paspampres (Presidential Security Detail) headquarters in Central Jakarta or to Perbakin (Indonesian Shooting and Hunting Association) in Senayan.

“Sometimes I spend my holiday at home. I love swimming and doing cardio exercises under the guidance of a personal trainer. I want to shed some weight because I’m overweight and my clothes are uncomfortable to wear.

“The best weight for me is around 45 or 46 kilograms. I have gained 5 kilograms now because I eat too much durian. I was crazy for that fruit, especially when I visited Medan in North Sumatra, which is famous for its durian.”
