The former foreign minister of the Aceh Freedom Movement (GAM), Zaini Abdullah, has made a return to the public sphere, this time as a GP.
“I used to practice as doctor in the early 70’s but then I joined GAM and have been a political fugitive since. Now it’s the time to pick up where I left off, back then,” he said Monday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Zaini was speaking at the opening of a medical clinic in Aceh Tamiang regency. Zaini, who is also one of the Aceh governor hopefuls, opened the clinic in cooperation with the Aceh Transition Committee (KPA), in efforts to provide medical services to elderly members of the community.
“I really hope we can do more in the coming years to fix the many health problems here,” he said.
