Govt plans to reopen Tanjung Priok-Kota railway

The government plans to reopen the 9-kilometer Tanjung Priok–Kota railway line by the end of the year, an official says.

“This month we will conduct a trial and I hope by the end of the year it can be back in operation,” Transportation Ministry railways directorate general spokesman Muhartono said Wednesday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

He added that the reopening of the route was part of a development program to improve public transportation to reduce traffic congestion in the capital.

State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia was forced to closed the line in 2004 because it was in a state of disrepair and unsafe for use.
