Democratic Party lawmaker and graft defendant Djufri was allegedly seen having lunch in the company of two prosecutors at a restaurant in Padang Pariaman, West Sumatra, on Thursday.
At the time, Djufri was accompanied by West Sumatra Prosecutors Office'prosecution division chief Idial and Zulkifli, one of the prosecutors handling his case. No police were seen at the location, kompas.com reported.
When asked about the incident, Djufri said he had been at a local hospital to check his back pain problem before deciding to have lunch with the prosecutors.
Idial confirmed the meeting, saying he and Zulkifli were tasked to accompany Djufri to the hospital.
The head of the legal reform division at West Sumatra Legal Aid Foundation (LBH), Roni Saputra, said the incident was a mistake, and that even though it was necessary there should have been police present to make sure that nothing untoward happened.
Djufri is being tried over over an alleged of budget mark up when, as Bukittinggi mayor in 2007, he ordered local authorities to buy several properties in the region.
