Minister checks Garut deputy regent resignation

Amid suspicious circumstances, Home Minister Gamawan Fauzi says he intends to study a resignation proposal submitted by Garut deputy regent Dicky Chandra before making a decision on the matter.

“It would be different if, for example, the local council could state their position on the proposal. Then I could make a quick decision. But since the council said nothing, I have promised to study the proposal before making any decision,” he said Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.

Garut deputy regent Dicky Chandra, who used to be an artist, tendered his resignation to Garut council, saying he could no longer maintain his partnership with Garut regent Aceng Fikri.

Observers have suggested the split was based on Dicky’s

disappointment at Aceng's decision to join a political party. The pair were elected on an independent ticket, after they both refused support from political parties.
