Muhajidin Nur Hasyim, a brother of graft suspect and former Democratic
Party treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin, appeared at the antigraft
commission’s headquarters on Friday to undergo questioning as a witness
for Nazaruddin in the high-profile bribery case concerning a
construction project for the upcoming SEA Games.
Hasyim came to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) at around 2 p.m. on Friday, after he failed to show up at the commission to give testimony about his brother on Wednesday.
One of Nazaruddin’s lawyers, Elza Syarief, told reporters on Wednesday that Hasyim knew a great deal about PT Anugrah Nusantara, Nazaruddin’s company which was involved in the rigged bid for the project.
“He knows a lot about it [the company] because he took Nazaruddin’s place in the company in June 2009,” she said.
Nazaruddin allegedly acted as a go-between in the bribery plot. He is believed to have offered contractor Mohamad El Idris of PT Duta Graha Indah (DGI) the project to build an athletes’ village, which had been commissioned by the Youth and Sports Ministry, in exchange for “success fees” in the bribery case. Nazaruddin, through his confidante, convict Mindo Rosalina “Rosa” Manulang, later contacted ministry secretary, convict Wafid Muharram, to seal the bid for DGI in exchange for money from El Idris.
