Edy Sitorus, a rape suspect, said on Friday that he had promised to marry the woman he had allegedly raped. He admitted to having known the woman for a month.
“I promised to marry her,” said Edy, a public minivan driver, from behind bars on Friday, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Edy said that the victim, identified only as HL, had agreed to meet up with him on the day of the incident and that the sexual intercourse was of mutual consent. “I did not force it,” he said.
Edy said that he went to meet HL because of a fight with his wife, with whom he has been married for five years.
According to police, Edy had threatened to kill the victim and had also stolen her cell phone, money and ring.
Edy allegedly raped HL after taking her for a ride in his public minivan.
If convicted, he faces a sentence of 9-12 years in prison.
