Agency to revoke problematic minivan license

Jakarta Transportation agency chief Udar Prastono said he planned to revoke the operational licenses belonging to questionable drivers of public minivans, referring to the latest rape case allegedly committed by a public minivan driver.

“We will impose this [policy] to encourage the minivan owners as well. We want to remind the owners that they should closely monitor their drivers’ behavior on a daily basis,” he said Friday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

The police have named driver Edy Sitorus as the sole suspect in the rape of a babysitter, who was attacked on her way home in East Jakarta on Thursday. Edy had earlier defended himself by saying that there was no rape attempt as he and the victim had known each other for a long time. Edy even promised to marry the baby sitter.

The police, however, remanded him in custody after receiving a separate report that Edy had stolen cash, a cellular phone and a gold ring from the victim of the attack.
