Law and Human Rights Ministry to see new minister today

Former law human rights minister Partialis Akbar is scheduled to hand over his post to his successor, Amir Syamsuddin, at the ministry soon after the minister's installation at the Presidential Palace.

Amir is a former Democratic Party secretary-general and a noted lawyer. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has also installed his aide, Denny Indrayana, a law professor from Gajah Mada University, to be the deputy minister.

“The handover ceremony will take place at 1 pm at the ministry office in Kuningan, South Jakarta,” Amir told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.

Denny, meanwhile, said the new post would be a challenge for him.

“To me, this is a mandate, and is misfortunate,” he told the Post.

“As long as I do my job well, at the end of my tenure I can hold my head high.”

Many have cited the reason for Patrialis' replacement was because of rampant corruption, especially within the minister’s prison management system.
