President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said he would combat corruption at the regional level but highlighted such a move would mean a little without support from law enforcement officials in the regions.
Yudhoyono said he had signed around 165 letters to allow prosecutors to investigate allegedly corrupt local officials.
“I want [to see] serious action at local levels because I have issued these letters,” he said Wednesday, as reported by tempointeraktif.com.
Yudhoyono denied previous media reports that said prosecutors often became hindered in investigating allegedly corrupt local officials due to the absence of authorization letters from him.
