UEA firm eyes tire plant in RI

A United Arab Emirates (UEA) firm plans to invest US$90 million to set up a tire plant in Indonesia, an official says.

Indonesian Consul General for Dubai Mansyur Pangeran said on Wednesday that the investment was a follow up of a recent visit by a UEA business delegation to West and East Java.

"The investor has surveyed potential locations in Cikarang and Karawang. They will produce (the tires) here and export (the products) to Gulf countries," he told reporters in the sidelines of the 26th Trade Expo Indonesia at the Jakarta International Expo in Kemayoran, Jakarta.

According to Mansyur, the firm — whose he declined to specify — would produce around 20,000 tires per year and employ 2,000 workers.
