American automaker Chrysler through its local distributor PT Garansindo Inter Global (GIG) plans to build plants here worth an estimated Rp 10 trillion (US$1.1 billion), a top official says.
“We are still studying the feasibility [of the plan], but we have already prepared the human resources to handle the process,” GIG CEO Ferial Fahmi said Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com, added that he hoped the new plants could operational by 2014.
He said that the company would also launch three new models in 2012, with GIG planning to expand its distribution by building new dealerships in Bali and Kalimantan.
Chrysler, which is famous for its jeep model, used to be jointly owned by German automobile giant Daimler Benz AG and Italy's Fiat.
