Britain-based international textile organization Ars Textrina and Korea-based Costume Culture Association, in cooperation with Indonesia's Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), are set to hold the International Textile and Costume Congress at the ITB campus in Bandung from Monday to Wednesday.

Congress chairman Biranul Anas said the event was being organized in Bandung because around 70 percent of textiles in Indonesia were made in the Bandung area and surrounding region.

“Bandung deserves to be [Indonesia's] textile capital,” Biranul said Monday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

The annual event is aimed to bring together academics from various countries to share innovations and new technologies in the textile sector, such as software for clothing designs and clothing machinery.

Biranul said the congress was important for Indonesia in efforts to broaden public, government and business perspectives on the development of a creative economy.

He added a creative economy should be based on science and technology.

Participants in the congress come from, among others areas, India, Malaysia, the United States, Thailand, Britain, Japan, Egypt, Israel and Turkey.
