Lebak regency in Banten is in dire need of up to 1,045 new classrooms at its 758 state primary schools, an official says.
“At present, we are pushing as many students as possible into one classroom,” Lebak Education Agency secretary Juanda said Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.
He added that each classroom currently held up to 80 students, way beyond its intended capacity for 32 students per class.
Besides the need for new classrooms, Juanda said, 295 of the existing 1,701 classrooms were in a state of disrepair and require renovation, Juanda said, adding that the local budget (APBD) would only help them build 35 new classrooms.
“We need special attention for this.”
