JPJAKARTA: Novelist and former Film Censorship Board (LSF) chairperson Titi Said passed away on Monday evening at 76 years of age. She was being treated for a stroke at the Medistra Hospital, Jakarta.
In her lifetime, Titi wrote the biography of Lenny Marilina, the actress and wife of politician Bambang Wiratmadji Soeharto. She was also an active senior scriptwriter, editor of Kartini magazine and also headed up the Famili magazine.
By 2008, she had written 25 novels. Some of her works include Jangan Ambil Nyawaku (Do not take my life away), Reinkarnasi (Reincarnation), in addition to short stories such as Perjuangan dan Hati Perempuan (Struggle and the Heart of a Woman).
Her colleague at the censorship board, Firman Bintang, said that Titi was a good mother, sister and friend.
“She had asked me to make a film out of her novel Jangan Ambil Nyawaku, because the story, in her opinion, really depicted the disease of cancer,” he said on Monday, as reported by kompas.com.
He added that Titi suffered from a stroke before she could make the film.
Titi was born in Bojonegoro, East Java, in 1935.
