The Indonesian
Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) began on Sunday its search for candidates to
represent it in the Jakarta
gubernatorial election.
PDI-P Jakarta
chairman Djarot Syaifullah Hidayat said as quoted by kompas.com that the process
would last until Nov. 14.
Djarot said
candidates should fill in application forms and submit them at any PDI-P branch
in Jakarta. “We
welcome any candidate as long as he/she shares the same ideology as PDI-P,” he
said.
He said all applicants
would be assessed by an internal team called Team 9, which comprises several
top officials, including deputy chief Puan Maharani, deputy secretary-general
Eriko Sotarduga and Djarot himself, before being made the party's official
candidates.
“We hope that we
can announce the official governor and deputy candidate by January next year,”
Djarot said.
The Jakarta
gubernatorial election will be held next year.
